WEBVTT 00:00.000 --> 00:10.080 Hello everyone and welcome back to another episode of GRTV news. It's a new week and 00:10.080 --> 00:14.120 I figured we'd kick things off by talking about a really bizarre story that broke last 00:14.120 --> 00:20.440 week actually. Recently the Pokemon Company had decided or made an announcement that it 00:20.440 --> 00:26.480 was going to be collaborating with the Witzer Van Gogh museum in the Netherlands. Quite 00:26.480 --> 00:31.400 an unusual collaboration, but then again the Pokemon Company does do a lot of really 00:31.400 --> 00:36.660 peculiar collaborations because of its sheer size, right? You know, Pokemon is the biggest 00:36.660 --> 00:42.280 sort of franchise out there. But yeah, this collaboration was announced and it led many 00:42.280 --> 00:46.600 people to think, you know, what's this going to be? Last week it went, you know, it actually 00:46.600 --> 00:52.240 launched, it actually launched and went live. And as part of this collaboration, they were 00:52.240 --> 00:55.720 giving away these exclusive Pokemon cards. And as you can probably tell where this is 00:55.720 --> 01:00.520 leading, there has been a huge amount of scalping taking place for people taking these 01:00.520 --> 01:04.440 cards and looking to resell them at a massive increase in price. So with that being the 01:04.440 --> 01:09.960 case, let's take a look at what's happening. Scalpers go crazy for Pokemon cards at Van 01:09.960 --> 01:19.320 Gogh museum. People are going rabid for Pikachu wearing a funny little hat. Iron people. Scalpers 01:19.320 --> 01:24.920 are willing to go to major lengths to get their hands on limited edition or high ticket 01:25.080 --> 01:30.200 items. But few things create scalper rampages quite like Pokemon merchandise. We reported in 01:30.200 --> 01:34.920 the last, in the past, sorry, that some exclusive merch would be coming to celebrate a collaboration 01:34.920 --> 01:39.560 between Pokemon and the Van Gogh museum. Now we have footage from the museum where scalpers have 01:39.560 --> 01:44.120 been rushing to bulk buy cards with Pikachu wearing a hat. It got so bad that the museum 01:44.120 --> 01:49.000 has had to change its policy regarding purchases of the items. It'll only allow one of each unique 01:49.000 --> 01:53.160 item for ticket holders. I mean, you can't just sweep the whole place. I'm not going to play the 01:53.160 --> 01:57.080 video here, but if you want to check it out, it's embedded into this piece here. What's weird 01:57.080 --> 02:00.680 about this is that the Van Gogh collaboration isn't running for a few days and it will be 02:00.680 --> 02:04.920 available until the 7th of January. The special Pikachu card coming with each valid purchase 02:04.920 --> 02:09.560 on the Pokemon center website. But as always, scalpers are going to scalp. Just make sure you 02:09.560 --> 02:19.000 don't fall into their trap and buy one of their cars on eBay. So yes, scalpers are buying these 02:19.000 --> 02:25.080 cards and reselling them at extortionate prices. It is literally just a picture. Essentially it's 02:25.080 --> 02:30.840 like a portrait of Van Gogh, except it's Pikachu instead of the artist himself. And he's wearing, 02:30.840 --> 02:36.120 Pikachu is wearing a sort of top hat. It's a very interesting card, but is it worth paying 02:36.120 --> 02:40.920 all the money that these scalpers are going to charge for it? No. If you can't get there for 02:40.920 --> 02:44.120 yourself, don't buy one of these cards for the ridiculous amounts of money these people are 02:44.120 --> 02:49.320 selling them for, because it just encourages them. But yeah, no doubt there'll be, we'll see a drop 02:49.320 --> 02:53.160 in scalping as it goes on, because as Alex puts the news piece there, the collaboration is running 02:53.160 --> 02:56.840 until early in the new year. So there's plenty of time to get your hands on these cards and there's 02:56.840 --> 03:01.160 plenty, there should be plenty of them going around, so it shouldn't hopefully be that much of a 03:01.160 --> 03:07.240 massive sort of issue in regard to scalpers. But as we know more, be sure to keep yourself updated 03:07.240 --> 03:10.200 and otherwise we'll be back now tomorrow for the next GRTV News of the Week. So until then, 03:10.200 --> 03:19.000 hope you enjoy the rest of your Monday and we'll see you all on the next one. Take care, everyone.
