GRTV News - Verwacht niet nog een paar jaar een Steam Deck 2 te zien

Valve heeft zijn plannen voor een opvolger aangestipt.

"Hello everyone and welcome back to another episode of GRTV News.
Today we're going to be talking about one of the sort of hardware platforms, let's say, because it's not really a console, with that being Steam Deck."

"Because, well, Steam Deck's been out for a while now, it's been doing incredibly well ever since it launched.
But now that it's been here for a few years, some people are starting to wondering about what's going to be next for Steam Deck.
Will there be a successor console at some point?
And Valve has touched a little bit about this in the new interview."

"So, with that being the case, let's dive into the news piece and talk a little bit about it.
Don't expect to see a Steam Deck for a few more years.
It'll likely be 2025 or 2026 before a successor system arrives.
If you've been eyeing up a Steam Deck and have been contemplating waiting until a more powerful follow-up console arrives before picking one up, you might want to change that plan."

"Because Valve's Pierre-Loup Griffay has now revealed that a Steam Deck successor is still years away.
Speaking with The Verge, Griffay notes that we could be waiting until 2025 or even 2026 before Steam Deck 2 makes its debut.
The reason is down to Valve needing to set a strict performance target for the system for developers to hit.
And it doesn't intend to shift away from what the Steam Deck currently targets unless there is a significant improvement to be made."

"Griffay states, to see where things are going there.
Do you think that the Steam Deck needs a successor soon? Are you happy with the device as it currently is?
So, it is an interesting topic of conversation about, you know, how Steam or Valve is going to be approaching upgrading and continuing the Steam Deck sort of family and ecosystem of devices."

"I think there's a lot that Valve can do that differs from a performance stance to improve the Steam Deck a little bit these days.
I think we've had a lot of different sort of rival devices come out as of late, including the Asus ROG Ally and soon to be the Lenovo Legion Go, which I think they've sort of already built on what the Steam Deck is offering."

"So I think that Valve can potentially look at what they've done with the Steam Deck and improve in ways that doesn't directly relate to performance.
Obviously, better performance is always great. You'll be able to play the latest and best games in better quality and better frame rates and whatnot."

"That's something that a lot of people are going to want.
But I think there's some things that Valve can do as well with the Steam Deck platform to improve its sort of its shape and its size and all those different things to make it a more, well, seriously, less of a burly system. It's quite a big device, the Steam Deck."

"But either way, we won't be seeing a Steam Deck 2 or a Steam Deck, whatever you're going to call it, you know, a Steam Deck successor until 2025 at the very earliest.
Although to me, in the way that Grafae was sort of talking about it, makes me think there's probably more 2026 at this point."

"So we're at least a couple of years away from seeing anything or hearing anything about what's going to be next for the Steam Deck family of devices. But otherwise, let us know what you think about it.
